Monday afternoon @ 2 p.m. had about 3" new damp snow. At times visibility with falling snow was very limited and it didn't help that I had an end-of-cold bronchial infection so to minimize getting pneumonia wore a small face mask, which tended to fog my eyeglasses, and the falling snow formed little meltwater pools that sloshed rythmically to and fro in the bottoms of the frames. You remember that scene in "Dr. Zhivago" where Yuri had escaped the Partisans and was trekking across the frozen Steppe to make his way back to Lara, and was hallucinating from hunger and exhaustion? Yeah, it was a little like that out in the open - but without the grim death march chorus. A lot more fun, too, even with no romanic encounter waiting at the end of the trail... Lack of binding of fresh snow over the slick old hardpack resulted in some hyper-extended side-slippy skate pushes. CL tracks were still intact and pretty usable. Should be super after grooming!

The west side and loops around the ball fields are all good to excellent. Certain areas have drifted over classic track and a few areas have oak leaf litter. Skate deck was just short of excellent only because it has had a lot of use and last grooming was a few days ago. No complaints with the grooming. Since there isn't a porta potty at the trail head this year, it would have been nice if the city could have unlocked the outside entrance to the bathrooms at the shelter. LOTS of people skiing and sledding this a.m. but shelter including the bathrooms was not accessible even after 11 a.m. I heard a number of complaints about that inconvenience.

Great to see so many skiers on the trail yesterday! Club needs more support to continue to groom with a Pisten Bully at Elver. It takes about $82 per hour to run it with a volunteer operator and about 3 hours to groom at Elver. Here is a link to MadNorSki donation page: https://madnorski.wufoo.com/forms/p135xv7j0eijapb/ Thanks everyone who already supported our efforts!

Snow on trails becoming compressed and firm with use, but still allowing good skate edging and control on downhills. CL tracks remain well defined except in open areas, where they've filled with loose windblown snow. Track bottoms in the wooded areas are being coated with oak leaves and in some cases they are a bit grabby, meriting semi-Telemark caution, or avoidance.

Skate deck groomed this morning on the east side and around soccer field. With cold temp coming today would be great to cover thing sports with snow. Come to Elver at 4:30pm to help shovel those areas. Bring snow or scoop shovel and otter sled if you have one. Meeting at the corner of the west parking lot. Moving on the trail on skis.

The new snow has shaped very nicely. Skied the lighted loop and it was 95% excellent coverage with crisp firm tracks. A bit of grass and dirt poking through in a few places but all avoidable. Tracks a bit glazed in places but the share deck was kicking fine fine

East side trails were coarse-rolled as of 2 p.m. Monday, including both uphills and the downhill across from the shelter, with no CL track set yet. Great coverage and very skiable. Roll pattern produced soft ridges in the direction of travel that are very strideable and just require keeping your skate ski tips up an extra inch. West side is great, with just a few gaps in CL tracking.

Very nice in the early morning. Thank you Dick for grooming last night! Snow was cold and not very fast, VR30 was working well for grip. Looks like they were starting to roll the East trails.
